Captured? How tying up, rescues and escapes work

Updated · Mechanics

Quick answer

Getting caught is a chain: a chalk hit stuns you, the teacher shows the Red Card and hauls you to a wooden pillar by the podium. Tied up, you can't interact — no eating, no items. Only a teammate can untie you, and in bigger rooms the rescue takes longer (Demo 0.1.6). There is no break-free action as of the demo; forum players asked for one repeatedly. Smoke bombs and bubble gum are the rescue tools: smoke hides the untie, gum can pop someone loose from range.

The capture chain

  1. Chalk hit → short stun.
  2. Red Card → the capture animation.
  3. Pillar → you’re tied next to the podium (“guardian” position, as Chinese players call it).
  4. Locked out → you can’t eat, throw or open drawers until freed (bug fix Oct 21 confirmed this rule).

Rescuing

Why players complain

The most-replied English thread (“Game is flawed”) asks for three things: a break-free action, a penalty when the teacher red-cards an NPC by mistake, and a dedicated rescue item. None were in the demo. The launch build’s custom room settings (teacher count, item spawn rates) are the current answer; a break-free mechanic hasn’t been announced.

FAQ

Can I escape on my own after being caught?

No. There's no struggle or break-free mechanic in the demo build. A teammate has to untie you.

How long does a rescue take?

Not published, but it got longer in rooms with more students in Demo 0.1.6.

Does the teacher lose Stamina when tying me up?

Yes — tying costs Stamina, which is why a good student team spreads captures out. Since Oct 21 each capture also refunds the teacher some (Teacher's Rage).

What happens to the last free student?

If every real student is tied up, the teacher wins the round.

Can gum really free a teammate?

Forum players say yes — a gum shot can knock a tied player loose — but the trajectory is random.
